The most common question we hear before a renovation is simple: how long will it take? The honest answer depends on the flat and the scope, but every HDB renovation follows the same order of stages. Knowing them helps you plan your move-in date.
After a site visit, you receive a written quotation with the scope, materials and timeline. This is the best time to make decisions on flooring, lighting and layout, because changes later cost time.
Some works, such as hacking certain walls or replacing windows, need HDB approval. Many simple works do not. We tell you which items apply to your flat.
Resale flats often need old tiles, cabinets and fittings removed. BTO flats usually skip most of this stage.
Wiring and pipes go in before walls, ceilings and floors are closed. This is the stage where good planning saves the most trouble later.
False ceilings and partitions are built, walls are plastered, and flooring such as vinyl is laid.
Doors are fitted and shower screens are measured after tiling, then installed.
Painting comes near the end, followed by a full clean and a handover walk-through.
